The Argosy FebA
-
-
God strengthen me to bear myselfB
That heaviest weight of all to bearC
Inalienable weight of careC
-
All others are outside myselfB
I lock my door and bar them outD
The turmoil tedium gad aboutD
-
I lock my door upon myselfB
And bar them out but who shall wallE
Self from myself most loathed of allE
-
If I could once lay down myselfB
And start self purged upon the raceF
That all must run Death runs apaceF
-
If I could set aside myselfB
And start with lightened heart uponG
The road by all men overgoneG
-
God harden me against myselfB
This coward with pathetic voiceH
Who craves for ease and rest and joysI
-
Myself arch traitor to myselfB
My hollowest friend my deadliest foeJ
My clog whatever road I goJ
-
Yet One there is can curb myselfB
Can roll the strangling load from meA
Break off the yoke and set me freeA
