Such a hubbub in the nestsA
Such a bustle and squeakB
Nestlings guiltless of a featherC
Learning just to speakB
Ask And how about the fashionsD
From a cavernous beakB
-
Perched on bushes perched on hedgesE
Perched on firm hahasE
Perched on anything that holds themF
Gay papas and grave mammasE
Teach the knowledge thirsty nestlingsE
Hear the gay papasE
-
Robin says A scarlet waistcoatG
Will be all the wearH
Snug and also cheerful lookingI
For the frostiest airH
Comfortable for the chest tooG
When one comes to plume and pairH
-
Neat gray hoods will be in vogueJ
Quoth a Jackdaw Glossy grayK
Setting close yet setting easyE
Nothing fly awayK
Suited to our misty morningsE
A la neglig eE
-
Flushing salmon flushing sulphurC
Haughty CockatoosE
Answer Hoods may do for morningsE
But for evenings chooseE
High head dresses curved like crescentsE
Such as well bred persons useE
-
Top knots yes yet more essentialL
Still a train or tailM
Screamed the Peacock Gemmed and lustrousE
Not too stiff and not too frailM
Those are best which rearrange asE
Fans and spread or trailM
-
Spoke the Swan entrenched behindG
An inimitable neckN
After all there's nothing sweeterC
For the lawn or lakeO
Than simple white if fine and flakyE
And absolutely free from speckN
-
Yellow hinted a CanaryE
Warmer not less distinguN
Peach color put in a LoryE
Cannot look outrE
All the colors are in fashionP
And are right the Parrots sayK
-
Very well But do contrastG
Tints harmoniousE
Piped a Blackbird justly proudG
Of bill aurigerousE
Half the world may learn a lessonP
As to that from usE
-
Then a Stork took up the wordG
Aim at height and chicN
Not high heels they're common somehowQ
Stilted legs not thickN
Nor yet thin he just glanced downwardG
And snapped to his beakN
-
Here a rustling and a whirringN
As of fans outspreadG
Hinted that mammas felt anxiousE
Lest the next thing saidG
Might prove less than quite judiciousE
Or even underbredG
-
So a mother Auk resumedG
The broken thread of speechR
Let colors sort themselves my dearsE
Yellow or red or peachR
The main points as it seems to meE
We mothers have to teachR
-
Are form and texture eleganceE
An air reserved sublimeS
The mode of wearing what we wearE
With due regard to month and climeS
But now let's all compose ourselvesE
It's almost breakfast timeS
-
A hubbub a squeak a bustleL
Who cares to chatter or singN
With delightful breakfast comingN
Yet they whisper under the wingN
So we may wear whatever we likeN
Anything everythingN
