Even the dead are documentedA
And noB
I don t mean death certificatesC
I mean thatD
even in the days that they may have been tormentedE
Journals notes poemsF
Scattered across the floor of a cellG
Words like theseH
Of someone you never would have knownI
-
NonethelessJ
They were thereK
Sure they re nothing but a pile of bones nowL
But literature is literatureM
In any formN
And that s only fairK
-
No matter what you may sayO
The dead always hadP
Something to sayO
Stories to tellG
Songs to singQ
Rain to dance inR
Jokes to makeS

Just like usT
They were onceU
YoungV
BeautifulW
And with a timerM

They hadP
Rights to fight forX
People they d die forX
Poems for a girl he lovedY
Tears for the man who leftZ
Feelings that remained suppressedA2
The struggle to find the will to simply get dressedA2

How can we claimB2
That someone is full of lifeC2
When every individual only has a certain amount of timeD2
How can we claimB2
That there s always a way outE2
When the pocket watchF2
The clock on the wallG2
The alarm clock that started it allG2

Now what are you thinkingQ
Have you written enoughJ2
Have you written too muchK2

But oh my friendL2
Don t worryM2
Someone will cherish the words you wroteN2
The pictures that eventually yellowed as they got oldO2
The scrapbooksP2
Random trinketsC
Books you never readQ2

Because just like you and meM2

Poet's note: I wanted to recognize those who wrote word after word and were never recognized because they weren't the best of all time. I wanted to illustrate the idea of what remains of us when we die and what is left as years go by.
