When will the time comeA
When will IB
among countless brilliant womenC
be able to speak my mindD
without being called dramaticE
Without my voiceF
getting lost in the staticE
Without being pushed asideG
Without fighting my wayH
through a crowd of guysI
just to be heardJ
Without tearsK
being treated as evidenceL
instead of emotionC
-
Who decidedM
all those years agoN
that women were lessO
That we were neither friend nor foeN
That we were just for showN
That we were only meant to be certain thingsP
only mothersQ
only wivesR
only something prettyS
And it s these kind of ideas that I despiseI
-
Who decidedM
we weren't capable of moreT
Don't tell me it's biologyS
Don't tell me it's a jokeU
ComedyS
-
Because somewhereV
Someone made a choiceF
Someone built a worldW
where men gave the ordersQ
and women asked permissionC
-
When will we truly stand equalX
The same right to speakY
The same right to fightZ
The same payH
The same respectA2
The same certaintyS
that what we say todayH
will still matter tomorrowN
-
But that still doesn't answerB2
my questionC
Who made the selectionC
Who made the decisionC
Only my time has run outC2
And I can only continue with your permissionC

Poet's note: I wrote this poem to the a 'many mysogynists out there that simply don't know how to listen. I want to express my anger with the world and how after all this time, women are still fighting for their rights. It is time we change the dialogue, look at the person, the perspective, and make a change.
