Ye simple souls that strayA
Far from the path of peaceB
That lonely unfrequented wayA
To life and happinessC
Why will ye folly loveD
And throng the downward roadE
And hate the wisdom from aboveD
And mock the sons of GodF
-
Madness and miseryG
Ye count our life beneathH
And nothing great or good can seeG
Or glorious in our deathI
As only born to grieveJ
Beneath your feet we lieK
And utterly contemned we liveL
And unlamented dieK
-
So wretched and obscureM
The men whom ye despiseN
So foolish impotent and poorO
Above your scorn we riseN
We through the Holy GhostP
Can witness better thingsQ
For He whose blood is all our boastP
Hath made us priests and kingsQ
-
Riches unsearchableK
In Jesu's love we knowR
And pleasures springing from the wellK
Of life our souls o'erflowK
The Spirit we receiveJ
Of wisdom grace and powerS
And always sorrowful we liveL
Rejoicing evermoreT
-
Angels our servants areU
And keep in all our waysV
And in their watchful hands they bearW
The sacred souls of graceX
Unto that heavenly blissY
They all our steps attendZ
And God himself our Father isA2
And Jesus is our friendZ
-
With him we walk in whiteB2
We in his image shineC2
Our robes are robes of glorious lightB2
Our righteousness divineC2
On all the kings of earthD2
With pity we look downE2
And claim in virtue of our birthD2
A never fading crownE2
