Pope, The Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB AACC DEFF GGGG EEGG DDCC

The Pope he leads a happy lifeA
He fears not married care nor strifeA
He drinks the best of Rhenish wineB
I would the Pope's gay lot were mineB
-
But yet all happy's not his lifeA
He has no maid nor blooming wifeA
No child has he to raise his hopeC
I would not wish to be the PopeC
-
The Sultan better pleases meD
His is a life of jollityE
He's wives as many as he willF
I would the Sultan's throne then fillF
-
But even he's a wretched manG
He must obey the AlcoranG
He dare not drink one drop of wineG
I would not change his lot for mineG
-
So here I'll take my lowly standE
I'll drink my own my native landE
I'll kiss my maiden fair and fineG
And drink the best of Rhenish wineG
-
And when my maiden kisses meD
I'll think that I the Sultan beD
And when my cheery glass I topeC
I'll fancy then I am the PopeC
