The Red Cross Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDEE

St George I learned to love thee in my youthA
When of thy deeds I read in deathless songB
And now when I behold the dragon WrongB
Hard by the castle gates of Love and TruthA
I feel the world's great need of thee forsoothA
To strike the heavy blow delayed too longB
Then turning from the medi val throngB
Where thou wert bravest yet the first in ruthA
I watch thy votaries by land and seaC
Armed with thy sacred sign go forth to fightD
Anew the battle of humanityC
Beneath the flag of mercy and of rightD
No holier band a holier realm e'er trodE
Than this the world's knight errantry of GodE
