Hail sceptered Mars great god of wars | B |
Hail Carnage queen of blood | C |
And hail those muffled armaments | D |
Thy fettered vulture brood | E |
Their sable wings are laureled and | F |
Their necks are ribboned gay | G |
And silken folds their talons hide | H |
This kingly holiday | G |
- | |
Grotesque and grim in chains of gold | I |
They go with solemn mien | J |
Their horrid plumes bedizened for | K |
The eyes of king and queen | J |
But padded claw and mummer's crest | L |
Have served not to disguise | M |
Those iron beaks that thirst for blood | C |
Those wakeful wolfish eyes | M |
- | |
Ten condors with unsated maws | M |
Four lesser birds of prey | G |
An eagle with undaunted eye | N |
From Shasta far away | G |
A score of birds from many seas | M |
All purged of grime and blood | C |
Keep truckling pace the fete to grace | M |
Mars' fettered vulture brood | E |
- | |
But see ye not great god of wars | M |
And ye Britannia's king | O |
The day when these black birds shall fly | N |
On fierce unshackled wing | O |
When they shall meet 'twixt sea and sky | N |
Rend flesh and break the bone | P |
And blood shall trickle through the waves | M |
To gray old Triton's throne | P |
- | |
Hail sceptered Mars great god of wars | M |
Hail Carnage queen of blood | C |
And hail those muffled armaments | M |
Thy fettered vulture brood | E |
And yet Christ's gentle teaching scrolls | M |
Prophetic on the sky | N |
Behold some day thy vulture brood | E |
Shall go unfed and die | N |
