Purple Martins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABA CAD EAAFC AGAA HIACIJABAD

IF we were such and so the same as theseA
maybe we too would be slingers and slidersA
tumbling half over in the water mirrorsA
tumbling half over at the horse heads of the sunB
tumbling our purple numbersA
-
Twirl on you and your satin blueC
Be water birds be air birdsA
Be these purple tumblers you areD
-
Dip and get awayE
From loops into slip knotsA
Write your own ciphers and figure eightsA
It is your wooded island here in Lincoln parkF
Everybody knows this belongs to youC
-
Five fat geeseA
Eat grass on a sod bankG
And never count your slinging ciphersA
your sliding figure eightsA
-
A man on a green paint iron benchH
Slouches his feet and sniffs in a bookI
And looks at you and your loops and slip knotsA
And looks at you and your sheaths of satin blueC
And slouches again and sniffs in the bookI
And mumbles It is an idle and a doctrinaire exploitJ
Go on tumbling half over in the water mirrorsA
Go on tumbling half over at the horse heads of the sunB
Be water birds be air birdsA
Be these purple tumblers you areD
