Rhyme Scheme: AB CDEFGBDDBDH IJDKLMN OPQM RRSTUDVDDW

THEY have taken the ball of earthA
and made it a little thingB
-
They were held to the land and horsesC
they were held to the little seasD
They have changed and shaped and weldedE
they have broken the old tools and madeF
new ones they are ranging the whiteG
scarves of cloudland they are bumpingB
the sunken bells of the CarthaginiansD
and Ph niciansD
they are handlingB
the strongest seaD
as a thing to be handledH
-
The earth was a call that mockedI
it is belted with wires and meshed withJ
steel from Pittsburg to Vladivostok isD
an iron ride on a moving house fromK
Jerusalem to Tokyo is a reckoned spanL
and they talk at night in the storm andM
salt the wind and the warN
-
They have counted the miles to the SunO
and Canopus they have weighed a smallP
blue star that comes in the southeastQ
corner of the sky on a foretold errandM
-
We shall search the sea againR
We shall search the stars againR
There are no bars across the wayS
There is no end to the plan and the clueT
the hunt and the thirstU
The motors are drumming the leather leggingsD
and the leather coats waitV
Under the seaD
and out to the starsD
we goW
