THE HIGH horses of the sea broke their white ridersA
On the walls that held and counted the hoursA
The wind lastedB
-
Two landbirds looked on and the north and the eastC
Looked on and the wind poured cups of foamD
And the evening beganE
-
The old men in the shanties looked on and lit theirF
Pipes and the young men spoke of the girlsG
For a wild night like thisH
-
The south and the west looked on and the moon cameI
When the wind went down and the sea was sorryJ
And the singing slowK
-
Ask how the sunset looked between the wind goingL
Down and the moon coming up and I would struggleM
To tell the how of itN
-
I give you fire here I give you water I give youO
The wind that blew them across and acrossP
The scooping mixing windQ
