Government Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKELE KMFFE NBOPQRSTUV

The Government I heard about the Government andA
I went out to find it I said I would look closely atB
it when I saw itC
Then I saw a policeman dragging a drunken man toD
the callaboose It was the Government in actionE
I saw a ward alderman slip into an office one morningF
and talk with a judge Later in the day the judgeG
dismissed a case against a pickpocket who was aH
live ward worker for the alderman Again I sawI
this was the Government doing thingsJ
I saw militiamen level their rifles at a crowd ofK
workingmen who were trying to get other workingmenE
to stay away from a shop where there was a strikeL
on Government in actionE
-
Everywhere I saw that Government is a thing made ofK
men that Government has blood and bones it isM
many mouths whispering into many ears sendingF
telegrams aiming rifles writing orders sayingF
yes and noE
-
Government dies as the men who form it die and are laidN
away in their graves and the new Government thatB
comes after is human made of heartbeats of bloodO
ambitions lusts and money running through it allP
money paid and money taken and money coveredQ
up and spoken of with hushed voicesR
A Government is just as secret and mysterious and sensitiveS
as any human sinner carrying a load of germsT
traditions and corpuscles handed down fromU
fathers and mothers away backV
