There is a quest that calls me	A
In nights when I am lone	B
The need to ride where the ways divide	C
The Known from the Unknown	B
I mount what thought is near me	A
And soon I reach the place	D
The tenuous rim where the Seen grows dim	E
And the Sightless hides its face	D

I have ridden the wind	F
I have ridden the sea	A
I have ridden the moon and stars	G
I have set my feet in the stirrup seat	H
Of a comet coursing Mars	G
And everywhere	I
Thro' the earth and air	I
My thought speeds lightning shod	J
It comes to a place where checking pace	D
It cries Beyond lies God	J

It calls me out of the darkness	K
It calls me out of sleep	L
Ride ride for you must to the end of Dust	M
It bids and on I sweep	L
To the wide outposts of Being	N
Where there is Gulf alone	B
And thro' a Vast that was never passed	O
I listen for Life's tone	B

I have ridden the wind	F
I have ridden the night	P
I have ridden the ghosts that flee	A
From the vaults of death like a chilling breath	Q
Over eternity	A
And everywhere	I
Is the world laid bare	I
Ether and star and clod	A
Until I wind to its brink and find	A
But the cry Beyond lies God	A

It calls me and ever calls me	A
And vainly I reply	R
Fools only ride where the ways divide	A
What Is from the Whence and Why	R
I'm lifted into the saddle	S
Of thoughts too strong to tame	T
And down the deeps and over the steeps	K
I find ever the same	T

I have ridden the force that flies	K
With far intent thro' the firmament	A
And each to each allies	K
And everywhere	I
That a thought may dare	I
To gallop mine has trod	A
