Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHAIJKLMNOPQQF QQQRSDShe was a coat of arms | A |
seasoned for the job tough | B |
and polished like tortoise shell | C |
When the women were tougher | D |
she'd tuck her advice giving head | E |
back against the executive chair | F |
let them try to fluff bent feathers | G |
watch them falling to their feet | H |
Then her little turtle arms | A |
would stretch out across the desk | I |
try to float a form | J |
a restraining order maybe | K |
a list of early warning signs | L |
but they'd keep on sleeping sleep | M |
hard through the sessions she'd spend | N |
blowing on plastic ships paper sails | O |
rarely reaching port and they would cry | P |
like little children watching helpless | Q |
dazed as she sunk their dreamboats | Q |
sat on them no coming up for air | F |
And perhaps she'd think of the little turtles | Q |
we'd kept confined to bathtubs as kids | Q |
or of the public safety commercials | Q |
telling mother how if she turned her back | R |
we could fall to sleep slide and drown | S |
in barely an inch of sitting water | D |
