in scorn while young because I thought to live | J |
without distraction using words Yet looking | A |
now into the room of strangers' eyes I wanted | C |
them to feel what I said touch as palpably | F |
as when a men in double worsted felt | B |
the cuff drop to his wrist There was a rush | K |
in the applause of gratitude and mercy | F |
they could go A teenager embarrassed | L |
for himself and me lefthandedly | F |
squeezed my fingers and said thanks | M |
