Which it is not my style	A
To produce needless pain	B
By statements that rile	A
Or that go 'gin the grain	B
But here's Captain Jack still a livin' and Nye has no skelp on his brain	B

On that Caucasian head	C
There is no crown of hair	D
It has gone it has fled	C
And Echo sez Where	D
And I asks Is this Nation a White Man's and is generally things on the square	D
	-
She was known in the camp	E
As Nye's other squaw	F
And folks of that stamp	E
Hez no rights in the law	G
But is treacherous sinful and slimy as Nye might hev well known before	H
	-
But she said that she knew	I
Where the Injins was hid	J
And the statement was true	I
For it seemed that she did	J
Since she led William where he was covered by seventeen Modocs and slid	J
	-
Then they reached for his hair	D
But Nye sez By the law	G
Of nations forbear	D
I surrenders no more	D
And I looks to be treated you hear me as a pris'ner a pris'ner of war	D
	-
But Captain Jack rose	K
And he sez It's too thin	L
Such statements as those	K
It's too late to begin	L
There's a Modoc Indictment agin you O Paleface and you're goin' in	L
	-
You stole Schonchin's squaw	F
In the year sixty two	I
It was in sixty four	D
That Long Jack you went through	I
And you burned Nasty Jim's rancheria and his wives and his papooses too	I
	-
This gun in my hand	M
Was sold me by you	I
'Gainst the law of the land	M
And I grieves it is true	I
And he buried his face in his blanket and wept as he hid it from view	I
	-
But you're tried and condemned	N
And skelping's your doom	O
And he paused and he hemmed	N
But why this resume	O
He was skelped 'gainst the custom of nations and cut off like a rose in its bloom	O
	-
So I asks without guile	A
And I trusts not in vain	B
If this is the style	A
That is going to obtain	B
If here's Captain Jack still a livin' and Nye with no skelp on his brain	B
