Rhyme Scheme: AABACADA EAFABABA GAEAAAEA BAHAAABA AABAEACA

So you're back from your travels old fellowA
And you left but a twelvemonth agoA
You've hobnobbed with Louis NapoleonB
Eugenie and kissed the Pope's toeA
By Jove it is perfectly stunningC
Astounding and all that you knowA
Yes things are about as you left themD
In Mud Flat a twelvemonth agoA
-
The boys they're all right Oh Dick AshleyE
He's buried somewhere in the snowA
He was lost on the Summit last winterF
And Bob has a hard row to hoeA
You know that he's got the consumptionB
You didn't Well come that's a goA
I certainly wrote you at BadenB
Dear me that was six months agoA
-
I got all your outlandish lettersG
All stamped by some foreign P OA
I handed myself to Miss MaryE
That sketch of a famous chateauA
Tom Saunders is living at 'FriscoA
They say that he cuts quite a showA
You didn't meet Euchre deck BillyE
Anywhere on your road to CairoA
-
So you thought of the rusty old cabinB
The pines and the valley belowA
And heard the North Fork of the YubaH
As you stood on the banks of the PoA
'Twas just like your romance old fellowA
But now there is standing a rowA
Of stores on the site of the cabinB
That you lived in a twelvemonth agoA
-
But it's jolly to see you old fellowA
To think it's a twelvemonth agoA
And you have seen Louis NapoleonB
And look like a Johnny CrapaudA
Come in You will surely see MaryE
You know we are married What noA
Oh ay I forgot there was somethingC
Between you a twelvemonth agoA
