Our Privilege Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CADA EAFA AGAG AHIH JKJK

Not ours where battle smoke upcurlsA
And battle dews lie wetB
To meet the charge that treason hurlsA
By sword and bayonetB
-
Not ours to guide the fatal scytheC
The fleshless Reaper wieldsA
The harvest moon looks calmly downD
Upon our peaceful fieldsA
-
The long grass dimples on the hillE
The pines sing by the seaA
And Plenty from her golden hornF
Is pouring far and freeA
-
O brothers by the farther seaA
Think still our faith is warmG
The same bright flag above us wavesA
That swathed our baby formG
-
The same red blood that dyes your fieldsA
Here throbs in patriot prideH
The blood that flowed when Lander fellI
And Baker's crimson tideH
-
And thus apart our hearts keep timeJ
With every pulse ye feelK
And Mercy's ringing gold shall chimeJ
With Valor's clashing steelK
