Saint Kavin was a gentleman	A
He came from Tipperary	B
And woman was the only thing	C
That ever made him scary	B
	-
For Kavin was a tender youth	D
And he was very simple	E
He feared the wiles of maiden smiles	F
And fainted at a dimple	E
	-
But when Kathleen at seventeen	G
Came down the street one morning	C
The luck of man came over him	H
And took him without warning	C
	-
Afraid to meet a foolish fate	I
By green sea or by dry land	J
He fled away without delay	K
And sought a desert island	L
	-
But even there he felt despair	M
For happiness is only	B
The hope of doing something else	N
And he was very lonely	B
	-
He vowed to lead a life of prayer	M
Because that he had lost her	O
And every time he thought of her	O
He said a Pater noster	O
	-
Yet hard it is for man to change	P
The less love for the greater	O
And every time he reached Amen	Q
He must go back to Pater	O
	-
And so he grew a year or two	R
Disconsolate and holy	B
While friends he'd known long since had grown	S
Papas and roly poly	B
	-
Until one day one blessed day	K
A moping like a Hindoo	K
He saw Kathleen in mournful mien	G
A passing by his window	K

He threw away his rosary	B
His Paters and his Aves	N
For love is stronger than the wind	K
That wafts a thousand navies	N
	-
The holy man went forth to war	O
But not against the devil	E
He led the maid within for shade	K
And treated her most civil	E
	-
He gave her cakes he gave her wine	T
He set his best before her	O
And then invited her to dine	T
Thenceforth with her adorer	O
	-
Her little head went round for joy	U
She tried to kick the rafter	O
So Kavin was a saint no more	O
And happy ever after	O
