The Mote Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEDFGH GIDDDDJDDIDKLDMNDO

Two shapes of august bearing seraph tallA
Of indolent imperturbable regardB
Stood in the Tavern door to drink As the firstC
Lifted his glass to let the warm light meltD
In the slow bubbles of the wine a sunbeamE
Red and broad as smouldering autumn smoteD
Down through its mystery and a single fleckF
The tiniest sun mote settling through the airG
Fell on the grape dark surface and there swamH
-
Gently the Drinker with fastidious careG
Stretched hand to clear the speck away No noI
His comrade stayed his arm Why said the firstD
What would you have me do Ah let it floatD
A moment longer And the second smiledD
Do you not know what that is No indeedD
A mere dust mote a speck of soot you thinkJ
A plague germ still unsatisfied It is notD
That is the Earth See I will stretch my handD
Between it and the sun the passing shadowI
Gives its poor dwellers a glacial periodD
Let it but stand an hour it would dissolveK
Intangible as the color of the wineL
There throw it away now Lift it from the sweetD
Enveloping flood it has enjoyed so wellM
He smiled as only those who live can smileN
Its time is done its revelry completeD
Its being accomplished Let us drink againO
