The Buccaneers. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHEHE IJIKLELE MNMNOEOE PQPQDEDE

Oh not for us the easy mirthA
Of men that never roamB
The crackling of the narrow hearthC
The cabined joys of homeB
Keep your tame regulated gleeD
O pale protected StateE
Our dwelling place is on the seaD
Our joy the joy of FateE
-
No long caresses give us easeF
No lazy languors warmG
We seize our mates as the sea gulls seizeF
And leave them to the stormG
But in the bridal halls of gloomH
The couch is stern and straitE
For us the marriage rite of DoomH
The nuptial joy of FateE
-
Wine for the weaklings of the townI
Their lucky toasts to drainJ
Our skoal for them whose star goes downI
Our drink the drink of menK
No Bacchic ivy for our browsL
Like vikings we awaitE
The grim ungarlanded carouseL
We keep to night with FateE
-
Ho gamesters of the pampered courtM
What stakes are those at strifeN
Your thousands are but paltry sportM
To them that play for lifeN
You risk doubloons and hold your breathO
Win groats and wax elateE
But we throw loaded dice with DeathO
And call the turn on FateE
-
The kings of earth are crowned with careP
Their poets wail and sighQ
Our music is to do and dareP
Our empire is to dieQ
Against the storm we fling our gleeD
And shout till Time abateE
The exultation of the seaD
The fearful joy of FateE
