There are legends of Lost HavenA
Come I know not whence to meB
When the wind is in the cloverC
When the sun is on the seaB
-
There are rumors in the pine topsD
There are whispers in the grassE
And the flocking crows at nightfallF
Bring home hints of things that passE
-
Out upon the broad dike yonderC
All day long beneath the sunA
Where the tall ships cloud and settleG
Down the sea curve one by oneA
-
And the crickets in fine chorusH
Every slim and tiny reedI
Strive to chord the broken rhythmusH
Of the world and half succeedI
-
There are myriad traditionsH
Treasured by the talking rainJ
And with memories the moonlightK
Walks the cold and silent plainJ
-
Where the river tells his hill talesH
To the lone complaining barL
Where the midgets thread their dancesH
To the yellow twilight starL
-
Where the blossom bends to hearkenJ
To the bee with velvet bandsH
There are chronicles encipheredK
Of the yet uncharted landsH
-
All the musical maraudersH
Of the berry and the bloomM
Sing the lure of soul's illusionJ
Out of darkness out of doomM
-
But the sure and great evangelG
Comes when half alone I hearN
At the rosy door of silenceH
Love the lord of speech draw nearO
-
Then for once across the thresholdK
Darkling spirit thou art freeB
As thy hope is every ship makesH
Some lost haven of the seaB
