In The Wings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JBKB LMNM OPQP

The play is Life and this round earthA
The narrow stage whereonB
We act before an audienceC
Of actors dead and goneB
-
There is a figure in the wingsD
That never goes awayE
And though I cannot see his faceF
I shudder while I playE
-
His shadow looms behind me hereG
Or capers at my sideH
And when I mouth my lines in dreadI
Those scornful lips derideH
-
Sometimes a hooting laugh breaks outJ
And startles me aloneB
While all my fellows wonderingK
At my stage fright play onB
-
I fear that when my Exit comesL
I shall encounter thereM
Stronger than fate or time or loveN
And sterner than despairM
-
The Final Critic of the craftO
As stage tradition tellsP
And yet perhaps 'twill only beQ
The jester with his bellsP
