Rhyme Scheme: AAAA ABCB ABDA EBFB ABFB AAAA

It was June and I was twentyA
All my wisdom poor but plentyA
Never learned Festina lenteA
Youth is gone but whither went heA
-
Madeline came down the orchardA
With a mischief in her eyeB
Half demure and half invitingC
Melting wayward wistful shyB
-
Four bright eyes that found life lovelyA
And forgot to wonder whyB
Four warm lips at one love lessonD
Learned by heart so easilyA
-
We gained something of that knowledgeE
No man ever yet put byB
But his after days of sorrowF
Left him nothing but to dieB
-
Madeline went up the orchardA
Down the hurrying world went IB
Now I know love has no morrowF
Happiness no by and byB
-
Youth is gone but whither went heA
All my wisdom poor but plentyA
Never learned Festina lenteA
It was June and I was twentyA
