The Bather Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CCD EE FF GEH GIJG

I saw him go down to the water to batheA
He stood naked upon the bankB
-
His breast was like a white cloud in the heavenC
that catches the sunC
It swelled with the sharp joy of the airD
-
His legs rose with the spring and curve of young birchesE
The hollow of his back caught the blue shadowsE
-
With his head thrown up to the lips of the windF
And the curls of his forehead astir with the windF
-
I would that I were a man they are so beautifulG
Their bodies are like the bows of the IndiansE
They have the spring and the grace of bows of hickoryH
-
I know that women are beautiful and that I am beautifulG
But the beauty of a man is so lithe and alive and triumphantI
Swift as the night of a swallow and sure as theJ
pounce of the eagleG
