To the cities I came in a time of disorder	B
That was ruled by hunger	B
I sheltered with the people in a time of uproar	C
And then I joined in their rebellion	D
That's how I passed my time that was given to me on this Earth	E

I lay down to sleep among the murderers	G
I didn't care for much for love	H
And for nature's beauties I had little patience	I

The city streets all led to foul swamps in my time	J
My speech betrayed me to the butchers	G
I could do only little	K
But without me those that ruled could not sleep so easily	L
That's what I hoped	M
That's how I passed my time that was given to me on this Earth	E

Our forces were slight and small	N
Our goal lay in the far distance	I
Clearly in our sights	O
If for me myself beyond my reaching	P

From the flood that's overwhelmed us and drowned us all	N
Must think when you speak of our weakness in times of darkness	Q
That you've not had to face	R

Days when we were used to changing countries	S
More often than shoes	T
Through the war of the classes despairing	P
That there was only injustice and no outrage	U

Even so we realised	M
Hatred of oppression still distorts the features	G
Anger at injustice still makes voices raised and ugly	L
Oh we who wished to lay for the foundations for peace and friendliness	V
Could never be friendly ourselves	W

Do human beings still treat themselves as animals	F
