Rhyme Scheme: AB CDEFG HIGHJK GCLMB NGOGP QLGGRN LGGH NSTC CLEU

Let others speak of her shameA
I speak of my ownB
-
O Germany pale motherC
How soiled you areD
As you sit among the peoplesE
You flaunt yourselfF
Among the besmirchedG
-
The poorest of your sonsH
Lies struck downI
When his hunger was greatG
Your other sonsH
Raised their hands against himJ
This is notoriousK
-
With their hands thus raisedG
Raised against their brotherC
They march insolently around youL
And laugh in your faceM
This is well knownB
-
In your houseN
Lies are roared aloudG
But the truthO
Must be silentG
Is it soP
-
Why do the oppressors praise you everywhereQ
The oppressed accuse youL
The plunderedG
Point to you with their fingers butG
The plunderer praises the systemR
That was invented in your houseN
-
Whereupon everyone sees youL
Hiding the hem of your mantle which is bloodyG
With the bloodG
Of your best sonsH
-
Hearing the harangues which echo from your houseN
men laughS
But whoever sees you reaches for a knifeT
As at the approach of a robberC
-
O Germany pale motherC
How have your sons arrayed youL
That you sit among the peoplesE
A thing of scorn and fearU
