Not What Was Meant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDECFGFFFFFHIFJKLF KM N

When the Academy of Arts demanded freedomA
Of artistic expression from narrow minded bureaucratsB
There was a howl and a clamour in its immediate vicinityC
But roaring above everythingD
Came a deafening thunder of applauseE
From beyond the Sector boundaryC
Freedom it roared Freedom for the artistsF
Freedom all round Freedom for allG
Freedom for the exploiters Freedom for the warmongersF
Freedom for the Ruhr cartels Freedom for Hitler's generalsF
Softly my dear fellowsF
The Judas kiss for the artists followsF
Hard on the Judas kiss for the workersF
The arsonist with his bottle of petrolH
Sneaks up grinning toI
The Academy of ArtsF
But it was not to embrace him justJ
To knock the bottle out of his dirty hand thatK
We asked for elbow roomL
Even the narrowest mindsF
In which peace is harbouredK
Are more welcome to the arts than the art loverM
-
Who is also a lover of the art of warN
