Our Visitor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCABCDEFDEFAGHAGHIJ FIJF AJJAJJGJFGJF DJGDJGIKFIKFThere's a fellow on the station | A |
He dropped in on a call | B |
Just casual to stay a pleasant week | C |
He s a banker s near relation | A |
Strongly built and very tall | B |
Not altogether destitute of cheek | C |
He s a descent judge of whisky | D |
And the hardest working youth | E |
Who ever played a polo on a cob | F |
His anecdotes are risky | D |
And to tell the honest truth | E |
He s waiting here until he gets a job | F |
He s waiting as I mention | A |
And whene er he says his prayers | G |
Which he doesn t do as frequently as some | H |
And I fear that his intention | A |
Isn t quite so good as theirs | G |
For he prays to God the work may never come | H |
He marches with the banner | I |
Of the noble unemployed | J |
He mixes with the fashionable mob | F |
But while he s got a tanner | I |
He scorns to be decoyed | J |
Where there s any chance he may get a job | F |
- | |
He s an excellent musician | A |
And the song that suits him best | J |
Old Stumpy is a masterpiece of art | J |
Tis a splendid composition | A |
As he chucks it off his chest | J |
Though there s something of a hitch about the start | J |
He s an artist too in colours | G |
For he painted up the boat | J |
You wonder but he did so help me bob | F |
And all the champion scullers | G |
When once he gets afloat | J |
Couldn t catch him if they offered him a job | F |
- | |
He s very unpretending | D |
Most affable and kind | J |
He ll take a whisky any time it suits | G |
Extremely condescending | D |
He really does not mind | J |
He ll even when it s muddy wear your boots | G |
Some think he isn t clever | I |
But it s my distinct belief | K |
That there s much more than they fancy in his nob | F |
But he s travelling on the never | I |
And will surely die of grief | K |
On the day when he s compelled to take a job | F |
