The Digger's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDEED FFGGCCDHHD IJIJCCDKKD

Scrape the bottom of the hole gather up the stuffA
Fossick in the crannies lest you leave a grain behindB
Just another shovelful and that'll be enoughA
Now we'll take it to the bank and see what we can findB
Give the dish a twirl aroundC
Let the water swirl aroundC
Gently let it circulate there's music in the swishD
And the tinkle of the gravelE
As the pebbles quickly travelE
Around in merry circles on the bottom of the dishD
-
Ah if man could only wash his life if he only couldF
Panning off the evil deeds keeping but the goodF
What a mighty lot of digger's dishes would be soldG
Though I fear the heap of tailings would be greater than the goldG
Give the dish a twirl aroundC
Let the water swirl aroundC
Man's the sport of circumstance however he may wishD
Fortune are you there nowH
Answer to my prayer nowH
And drop a half ounce nugget in the bottom of the dishD
-
Gently let the water lap keep the corners dryI
That's about the place the gold will generally stayJ
What was that bright particle that just then caught my eyeI
I fear me by the look of things 'Twas only yellow clayJ
Just another twirl aroundC
Let the water swirl aroundC
That's the way we rob the river of its golden fishD
What's that can't we snare a oneK
Don't say that there's ne'er a oneK
Bah there's not a colour in the bottom of the dishD
