Our Visitor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCABCDEFDEF AGHAGHIJFIJF AJJAJJGJFGJF DJGDJGIKFIKF

There's a fellow on the stationA
He dropped in on a callB
Just casual to stay a pleasant weekC
He's a banker's near relationA
Strongly built and very tallB
Not altogether destitute of cheekC
He's a descent judge of whiskyD
And the hardest working youthE
Who ever played a polo on a cobF
His anecdotes are riskyD
And to tell the honest truthE
He's waiting here until he gets a jobF
-
He's waiting as I mentionA
And whene'er he says his prayersG
Which he doesn't do as frequently as someH
And I fear that his intentionA
Isn't quite so good as theirsG
For he prays to God the work may never comeH
He marches with the bannerI
Of the noble unemployedJ
He mixes with the fashionable mobF
But while he's got a tannerI
He scorns to be decoyedJ
Where there's any chance he may get a jobF
-
He's an excellent musicianA
And the song that suits him bestJ
Old Stumpy is a masterpiece of artJ
'Tis a splendid compositionA
As he chucks it off his chestJ
Though there's something of a hitch about the startJ
He's an artist too in coloursG
For he painted up the boatJ
You wonder but he did so help me bobF
And all the champion scullersG
When once he gets afloatJ
Couldn't catch him if they offered him a jobF
-
He's very unpretendingD
Most affable and kindJ
He'll take a whisky any time it suitsG
Extremely condescendingD
He really does not mindJ
He'll even when it's muddy wear your bootsG
Some think he isn't cleverI
But it's my distinct beliefK
That there's much more than they fancy in his nobF
But he's travelling on the neverI
And will surely die of griefK
On the day when he's compelled to take a jobF
