My Juggins see the pasture greenA
Obeying Nature's kindly lawB
Renews its mantle there has beenC
A thawB
-
The frost bound earth is free at lastD
That lay 'neath Winter's sullen yokeE
'Till people felt it getting pastD
A jokeE
-
Now forth again the Freshers fareF
And get them tasty summer suitsG
Wherein they flaunt afield and scareF
The brutesG
-
Again the stream suspects the keelH
Again the shrieking captain dropsG
Upon his crew again the mealH
Of chopsG
-
Divides the too laborious dayI
Again the Student sighs o'er ModsG
And prompts his enemies to layI
Long oddsG
-
Again the shopman spreads his wilesG
Again the organ pipes unboundJ
Distract the populace for milesG
AroundJ
-
Then Juggins ere December's touchK
Once more the wealth of Spring reclaimL
Since each successive year is muchK
The sameL
-
Since too the monarch on his throneM
In purple lapped and frankincenseG
Who from his infancy has blownM
ExpenseG
-
No less than he who barely getsG
The boon of out of door reliefN
Must see desuetude come let'sG
Be briefN
-
At those resolves last New Year's DayI
The easy gods indulgent winkO
Then downward ho the shortest wayI
Is drinkO
