After C S CA
-
When the hunter star OrionB
Or it may be Charles his WainC
Tempts the tiny elves to try onD
All their little tricks againE
When the earth is calmly breathingF
Draughts of slumber undefiledG
And the sire unused to teethingF
Seeks for errant pins his childG
-
When the moon is on the oceanB
And our little sons and heirsH
From a natural emotionB
Wish the luminary theirsH
Then a feeling hard to stifleI
Even harder to defineJ
Makes me feel I 'd give a trifleI
For the days of Auld Lang SyneJ
-
James for we have been as brothersK
Are to speak correctly twinsL
Went about in one another'sK
Clothing bore each other's sinsL
Rose together ere the pearlyA
Tint of morn had left the heavenJ
And retired absurdly earlyA
Simultaneously at sevenJ
-
James the days of yore were pleasantG
Sweet to climb for alien pearsH
Till the irritated peasantG
Came and took us unawaresH
Sweet to devastate his chickensM
As the ambush'd catapultG
Scattered and the very dickensM
Was the natural resultG
-
Sweet to snare the thoughtless rabbitG
Break the next door neighbour's paneJ
Cultivate the smoker's habitG
On the not innocuous caneJ
Leave the exercise unwrittenJ
Systematically cutG
Morning school to plunge the kittenJ
In his bath the water buttG
-
Age my James that from the cheek ofN
Beauty steals its rosy hueO
Has not left us much to speak ofN
But 'tis not for this I rueO
Beauty with its thousand gracesP
Hair and tints that will not fadeG
You may get from many placesQ
Practically ready madeG
-
No it is the evanescenceR
Of those lovelier tints of HopeS
Bubbles such as adolescenceR
Joys to win from melted soapS
Emphasizing the conclusionJ
That the dreams of Youth remainJ
Castles that are An delusionJ
Castles that's to say in SpainJ
-
Age thinks 'fit ' and I say 'fiat '-
Here I stand for Fortune's buttG
As for Sunday swains to shy atG
Stands the stoic coco nutG
If you wish it put succinctlyA
Gone are all our little gamesT
But I thought I 'd say distinctlyA
What I feel about it JamesT
