The dew was full of sun that mornB
Oh I heard the doves in the ladyricks coopC
As he crossed the meadows beyond the cornB
Watching his falcon in the blueD
How could he hear my song so farE
The song of the blood where the pulses areE
Straight through the fields he came to meF
Oh I saw his soul as I saw the dewD
But I hid my joy that he might not seeF
I hid it deep within my breastG
As the starling hides in the maize her nestG

Back through the corn he turned againH
Oh little he cared where his falcon flewD
And my heart lay still in the hand of painI
As in winter's hand the rivers doD
How could he hear its secret cryJ
The cry of the dove when the cummers dieJ
Thrice in the maize he turned to meF
Oh I saw his soul as I saw the dewD
But I hid my pain that he might not seeF
I hid it deep as the grave is madeK
Where the heart that can ache no more is laidK

Last night where grows the river grassL
Oh the stream was dark though the moon was newD
I saw white Death with my lover passL
Side by side as the troopers soM
Give me said Death thy purse well filledN
And thy mantle clasp which the moonbeams gildN
Save the heart which beats for thy dear sakeO
Oh I saw my heart as I saw the dewD
All life hath given is Death's to takeO
Dear God how can I love thy dayP
If thou takest the heart that loves awayP
