Lullaby Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDD EEBCFFG AAAAHHH

O Mary Mother if the day we trodA
In converse sweet the lily fields of GodA
From earth afar arose a cry of painB
Would we not weep againC
Sings Hush hush O baby mineD
Mothers twain are surely thineD
One of earth and One divineD
-
O Mary Mother if the day the airE
Was sweet with songs celestial came a prayerE
From earth afar and mingled with the strainB
Would we not pray againC
Sings Sleep sleep my baby dearF
Mothers twain are surely nearF
One to pray and one to hearG
-
O Mary Mother if as yesternightA
A bird sought shelter at my casement lightA
A wounded soul should flutter to thy breastA
Wouldst thou refuse it restA
Sings Sleep darling peacefullyH
Mary Mother comforts meH
Christ her son hath died for theeH
