Iter Supremum Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CCDC EFGE AAHA

Oh what a night for a soul to goA
The wind a hawk and the fields in snowA
No screening cover of leaves in the woodB
Nor a star abroad the way to showA
-
Do they part in peace soul with its clayC
Tenant and landlord what do they sayC
Was it sigh of sorrow or of releaseD
I heard just now as the face turned grayC
-
What if aghast on the shoreless mainE
Of Eternity it sought againF
The shelter and rest of the Isle of TimeG
And knocked at the door of its house of painE
-
On the tavern hearth the embers glowA
The laugh is deep and the flagons lowA
But without the wind and the trackless skyH
And night at the gates where a soul would goA
