The Moper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACB DEDDE FGFFG HIHHI FJFFK LMLLM BFBBF HAHHA NONNO

The Moper mopeth all the dayA
He mopeth eke at nightB
And never is the Moper gayA
But grim and serious alwayC
He is a sorry sightB
-
He liketh not the merry quipD
He hateth other menE
Escheweth he companionshipD
Nor doth he e'er essay to tripD
The light fantastic tenE
-
He seeketh not where murm'ring brooksF
With rippling music flowG
He seeth naught in woman's looksF
And never readeth he in booksF
Except they tell of woeG
-
He e'en forgetteth that the sunH
Likewise God's balmy airI
Were made to gladden every oneH
But he preferreth both to shunH
And taketh not his shareI
-
He careth not for merry wightsF
Who drink Ch teau YquemJ
But he would set the world to rightsF
By peopling it with eremitesF
And very few of themK
-
When children sport with merry gleeL
He thinketh they are wildM
And with them doth so disagreeL
It seemeth verily that heL
Hath never been a childM
-
He thinketh that it is not rightB
Rare dishes to discussF
And knoweth not the keen delightB
Of one that hath an appetiteB
Yclep d ravenousF
-
Of goodly raiment he hath noneH
He calleth it displayA
Wherefore the urchin poketh funH
Because he looketh like that oneH
Unholy men call jayA
-
And so we see this foolish manN
All pleasant things doth scornO
Good folk pray God to change his planN
And cheer the Moper if He canN
Or let no more be bornO
