| A shuttlecock tossed to and fro | A |
| I gaze on one and know that she | B |
| Is all that womankind can be | B |
| I seek the other and she seems | C |
| The perfect idol of my dreams | C |
| And so between the charming pair | D |
| My heart is ever in the air | D |
| And yet although it be my fate | E |
| To hover indeterminate | F |
| I rest content nor ask for more | G |
| Than this sweet game of battledore | G |
