The Flag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCBBBBBBB ABABBBBBBBBA

Here comes The FlagA
Hail itB
Who dares to dragA
Or trail itB
Give it hurrahsC
Three for the starsC
Three for the barsC
Uncover your head to itB
The soldiers who tread to itB
Shout at the sight of itB
The justice and right of itB
The unsullied white of itB
The blue and red of itB
And tyranny's dread of itB
-
Here comes The FlagA
Cheer itB
Valley and cragA
Shall hear itB
Fathers shall bless itB
Children caress itB
All shall maintain itB
No one shall stain itB
Cheers for the sailors that fought on the wave for itB
Cheers for the soldiers that always were brave for itB
Tears for the men that went down to the grave for itB
Here comes The FlagA

Carol Lingo : In the late 50's and 60's we sang this song in Assembly. Taught to us by Mrs. Dorothy Munson at Joseph H. Brown School Philadelphia Pa. As the flags came from the back of the auditorium down the center aisle we stood to honor them and sang this beautiful song. Unfortunately I cannot find a recording of this.
