Mind And Matter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF FGFGHH

Great was his soul and high his aimA
He viewed the world and he could traceB
A lofty plan to leave his nameA
Immortal 'mid the human raceB
But as he planned and as he workedC
The fungus spore within him lurkedC
-
Though dark the present and the pastD
The future seemed a sunlit thingE
Still ever deeper and more vastD
The changes that he hoped to bringE
His was the will to dare and doF
But still the stealthy fungus grewF
-
Alas the plans that came to noughtF
Alas the soul that thrilled in vainG
The sunlit future that he soughtF
Was but a mirage of the brainG
Where now the wit Where now the willH
The fungus is the master stillH
