Harps Hung Up In Babylon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABABCBDA CAEEAFFGHHHAICA AJKKALLLAMNNCCAOOPA

The harps hung up in BabylonA
Their loosened strings rang on sang onA
And cast their murmurs forth uponA
The roll and roar of BabylonA
Forget me Lord if I forgetB
Jerusalem for BabylonA
If I forget the vision setB
High as the head of LebanonC
Is lifted over Syria yetB
If I forget and bow me downD
To brutish gods of BabylonA
-
Two rivers to each other runC
In the very midst of BabylonA
And swifter than their current fleetsE
The restless river of the streetsE
Of Babylon of BabylonA
And Babylon's towers smite the skyF
But higher reeks to God most highF
The smoke of her iniquityG
But oh betwixt the green and blueH
To walk the hills that once we knewH
When you were pure and I was trueH
So rang the harps in BabylonA
Or ere along the roads of stoneI
Had led us captive one by oneC
The subtle gods of BabylonA
-
The harps hung up in BabylonA
Hung silent till the prophet dawnJ
When Judah's feet the highway burnedK
Back to the holy hills returnedK
And shook their dust on BabylonA
In Zion's halls the wild harps rangL
To Zion's walls their smitten clangL
And lo of Babylon they sangL
They only sang of BabylonA
Jehovah round whose throne of aweM
The vassal stars their orbits drawN
Within the circle of Thy lawN
Canst thou make nothing what is doneC
Or cause Thy servant to be oneC
That has not been in BabylonA
That has not known the power and painO
Of life poured out like driven rainO
I will go down and find againP
My soul that's lost in BabylonA
