The Too-late Born Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAABCDCDADA

We too we too descending once againA
The hills of our own land we too have heardB
Far off Ah que ce cor a longue haleineA
The horn of Roland in the passages of SpainA
The first the second blast the failing thirdB
And with the third turned back and climbed once moreC
The steep road southward and heard faint the soundD
Of swords of horses the disastrous warC
And crossed the dark defile at last and foundD
At Roncevaux upon the darkening plainA
The dead against the dead and on the silent groundD
The silent slainA
