Be still thou unregenerate partA
Disturb no more my settled heartA
For I have vow'd and so will doB
Thee as a foe still to pursueB
And combat with thee will and mustC
Until I see thee laid in th' dustC
Sister we are yea twins we beD
Yet deadly feud 'twixt thee and meD
For from one father are we notE
Thou by old Adam wast begotF
But my arise is from aboveG
Whence my dear father I do loveG
Thou speak'st me fair but hat'st me soreH
Thy flatt'ring shews I'll trust no moreH
How oft thy slave hast thou me madeI
When I believ'd what thou hast saidJ
And never had more cause of woeK
Than when I did what thou bad'st doB
I'll stop mine ears at these thy charmsL
And count them for my deadly harmsL
Thy sinful pleasures I do hateM
Thy riches are to me no baitM
Thine honours do nor will I loveG
For my ambition lies aboveG
My greatest honour it shall beD
When I am victor over theeD
And Triumph shall with laurel headJ
When thou my Captive shalt be ledJ
How I do live thou need'st not scoffN
For I have meat thou know'st not ofG
The hidden Manna I do eatO
The word of life it is my meatO
My thoughts do yield me more contentP
Than can thy hours in pleasure spentP
Nor are they shadows which I catchQ
Nor fancies vain at which I snatchQ
But reach at things that are so highR
Beyond thy dull CapacityD
Eternal substance I do seeD
With which inriched I would beD
Mine eye doth pierce the heav'ns and seeD
What is Invisible to theeD
My garments are not silk nor goldS
Nor such like trash which Earth doth holdS
But Royal Robes I shall have onT
More glorious than the glist'ring SunU
My Crown not Diamonds Pearls and goldS
But such as Angels' heads infoldS
The City where I hope to dwellV
There's none on Earth can parallelV
The stately Walls both high and trongW
Are made of precious Jasper stoneX
The Gates of Pearl both rich and clearY
And Angels are for Porters thereZ
The Streets thereof transparent goldS
Such as no Eye did e're beholdS
A Crystal River there doth runU
Which doth proceed from the Lamb's ThroneX
Of Life there are the waters sureA2
Which shall remain forever pureA2
Nor Sun nor Moon they have no needS
For glory doth from God proceedS
No Candle there nor yet Torch lightS
For there shall be no darksome nightS
From sickness and infirmityS
Forevermore they shall be freeS
Nor withering age shall e're come thereZ
But beauty shall be bright and clearY
This City pure is not for theeS
For things unclean there shall not beS
If I of Heav'n may have my fillB2
Take thou the world and all that willB2
