Author To Her Book, The Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJK LMNO

Thou ill form'd offspring of my feeble brainA
Who after birth did'st by my side remainA
Till snatcht from thence by friends less wise than trueB
Who thee abroad expos'd to public viewB
Made thee in rags halting to th' press to trudgeC
Where errors were not lessened all may judgeC
At thy return my blushing was not smallD
My rambling brat in print should mother callD
I cast thee by as one unfit for lightE
Thy Visage was so irksome in my sightE
Yet being mine own at length affection wouldF
Thy blemishes amend if so I couldF
I wash'd thy face but more defects I sawG
And rubbing off a spot still made a flawG
I stretcht thy joints to make thee even feetH
Yet still thou run'st more hobbling than is meetH
In better dress to trim thee was my mindI
But nought save home spun Cloth i' th' house I findI
In this array 'mongst Vulgars mayst thou roamJ
In Critics' hands beware thou dost not comeK
And take thy way where yet thou art not knownL
If for thy Father askt say thou hadst noneM
And for thy Mother she alas is poorN
Which caus'd her thus to send thee out of doorO
