As weary pilgrim now at restA
Hugs with delight his silent nestA
His wasted limbes now lye full softB
That myrie steps haue troden oftC
Blesses himself to think vponD
his dangers past and travailes doneD
The burning sun no more shall heatE
Nor stormy raines on him shall beatE
The bryars and thornes no more shall scratchF
nor hungry wolues at him shall catchF
He erring pathes no more shall treadG
nor wild fruits eate in stead of breadG
for waters cold he doth not longH
for thirst no more shall parch his tongueI
No rugged stones his feet shall gauleJ
nor stumps nor rocks cause him to fallJ
All cares and feares he bids farwellJ
and meanes in safity now to dwellJ
A pilgrim I on earth perplextG
wth sinns wth cares and sorrows vextG
By age and paines brought to decayK
and my Clay house mouldring awayK
Oh how I long to be at restG
and soare on high among the blestG
This body shall in silence sleepL
Mine eyes no more shall ever weepL
No fainting fits shall me assaileJ
nor grinding paines my body fraileJ
Wth cares and fears ne'r cumbred beM
Nor losses know nor sorrowes seeM
What tho my flesh shall there consumeN
it is the bed Christ did perfumeN
And when a few yeares shall be goneD
this mortall shall be cloth'd vponD
A Corrupt Carcasse downe it lyesM
a glorious body it shall riseM
In weaknes and dishonour sowneD
in power 'tis rais'd by Christ aloneD
Then soule and body shall vniteG
and of their maker haue the sightG
Such lasting ioyes shall there beholdG
as eare ne'r heard nor tongue e'er toldG
Lord make me ready for that dayG
then Come deare bridgrome Come awayG
