The Ghetto: A Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHI JJKLM M

Cuddling in the arms her half asphyxiated baby howlingA
she ran up the staircase of the apartment building that was set ablazeB
From the first floor to the secondC
From the second to the thirdD
From the third to the fourthE
-
Until she had jumped onto the roofF
There having choked with air clinging to the chimneyG
she looked down from where she could hearH
the crackle of flames which were reaching higher and higherI
-
And then she became motionless and silentJ
She kept silent to the end till the momentJ
at which she suddenly clenched her eyelidsK
stepped to the roof edge and throwing forward her armsL
she dropped her baby downM
-
Two seconds earlier than she herself leapt downM
