Sonnet Xvi. Translated From Boileau Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

Apollo at his crowded altars tir'dA
Of Votaries who for trite ideas thrownB
Into loose verse assume in lofty toneB
The Poet's name untaught and uninspir'dA
Indignant struck the LYRE Straight it acquir'dA
New powers and complicate Then first was knownB
The rigorous Sonnet to be fram'd aloneB
By duteous Bards or by just Taste admir'dA
Go energetic Sonnet go he criedC
And be the test of skill For rhymes that flowD
Regardless of thy rules their destin'd guideC
Yet take thy name ah let the boasters knowD
That with strict sway my jealous laws presideC
While I no wreaths on rebel verse bestowD
