Sonnet Xcvii. To A Coffin-lid Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD E

Thou silent Door of our eternal sleepA
Sickness and pain debility and woesB
All the dire train of ills Existence knowsB
Thou shuttest out FOR EVER Why then weepA
This fix'd tranquillity so long so deepA
In a dear FATHER's clay cold Form where roseB
No energy enlivening Health bestowsB
Thro' many a tedious year that us'd to creepA
In languid deprivation while the flameC
Of intellect resplendent once confess'dD
Dark and more dark each passing day becameC
Now that angelic lights the SOUL investD
Calm let me yield to thee a joyless FrameC
THOU SILENT DOOR OF EVERLASTING RESTD
