Sonnet Lii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABABCDEFEF G

Long has the pall of Midnight quench'd the sceneA
And wrapt the hush'd horizon All aroundB
In scatter'd huts Labor in sleep profoundB
Lies stretch'd and rosy Innocence sereneA
Slumbers but creeps with pale and starting mienA
Benighted SUPERSTITION Fancy foundB
The late self slaughter'd Man in earth yet greenA
And festering burst from his incumbent moundB
Roams and the Slave of Terror thinks he hearsC
A mutter'd groan sees the sunk eye that glaresD
As shoots the Meteor But no more forlornE
He strays the Spectre sinks into his tombF
For now the jocund Herald of the MornE
Claps his bold wings and sounds along the gloomF
-
It faded at the crowing of the cock HAMLETG
