Odes From Horace. - To Liguria. Book The Fourth, Ode The Tenth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAB DEDDE FGFFG HIHHJ FKFFK LMLLN

O thou exulting in the charmsA
Nature with lavish bounty showersB
When youth no more thy spirit warmsC
And stealing age thy pride alarmsA
For fleeting graces and for waning powersB
-
When all the shining locks that nowD
Adown those ivory shoulders boundE
With deaden'd colour shade thy browD
And fall as from th' autumnal boughD
Leaves that rude winds have scatter'd on the groundE
-
And on that cheek the tints that shameF
May's orient light and Summer's roseG
Dim as yon taper's sullen flameF
Shall in a dusky red proclaimF
That not one hue in wonted lustre glowsG
-
When wrinkles o'er LIGURIA's faceH
Their daily strengthening furrows leadI
When faithful mirrors cease to placeH
In her charm'd sight each blooming graceH
And will no more her heart's proud triumph feedJ
-
Then the chang'd Maid with secret shameF
Shall thus the past and present chideK
O why amid the loud acclaimF
That gave my rising charms to FameF
Swell'd this coy bosom with disdainful prideK
-
Or why since now the wish to yieldL
Steals pensive thro' each melting veinM
The ice dissolv'd that scorn congeal'dL
And every tender thought reveal'dL
Why vanish'd BEAUTY com'st not thou againN
